Are you a budding writer?

The BBC Writersroom is always looking at new ways to find and champion talent for all BBC platforms. The Writersroom is a valuable source of information regarding the scriptwriting and commissioning process and submit a script online via the Writersroom website.

You can also apply for the BBC Writers Academy.   The scheme works as an apprenticeship for writers. The first part involves a three-month course taught by John Yorke, Controller of Drama. Writers then complete a broadcast episode of Doctors, and if this is accepted they then complete commissions on Casualty, Holby and EastEnders.

In conjunction with National Theatre Wales, BBC Cymru Wales has launched the Wales Drama Award.  This new award looks for bold, original writers who want to write for two of the most dynamic companies. The competition is open to any writer, emerging or established, living and working in Wales. Further information can be found at the National Theatre Wales website.

Information for freelancers working at the BBC Cymru Wales drama studios at Roath Lock, Cardiff

Welcome to Roath Lock, the BBC's state of the art centre of excellence for Drama, a place brimming with new energy and talent.

When the first productions moved into Roath Lock in September 2011, they fulfilled a BBC commitment to create a centre of excellence for Drama in Cardiff.

Located in Porth Teigr, Cardiff Bay, the 170,000 square foot facility, including nine studios and equivalent in length to three football pitches, is now the permanent, purpose-built home of four flagship BBC dramas - Casualty, Pobol y Cwm, Doctor Who and Wizards vs Aliens - as well as new productions in the future.

The studios aim to be a hub for creative sustainability, bringing talent together and allowing knowledge and expertise to be shared and flow across all of the productions based there. In addition, the ambition exists for Roath Lock to build effective partnerships and become the foundation for the growth of the creative industries in Wales.
